The University Ombuds is here to assist you as you face a conflict situation or concern in your academic or workplace at The New School.
The University Ombuds is available both in-person and virtually as a confidential, independent, impartial, and informal resource for all members of The New School community and committed to help restore the dignity and wellbeing of our visitors by providing
a safe space to talk confidentially and off the record about any situation, concern, or topic related to the experiences of staff, faculty, and students. Members of the community are free to ask questions about policies, examine specific challenges
related to their academic environment or work experience, explore the implications of different courses of action, and determine the best process for resolving their issues. The only areas in which the ombuds is not available are matters covered in
a union contract.
In this space, which supplements formal channels, concerns can be voiced, strategies for resolution discussed, resources identified, and conversations facilitated. If a problem appears to be systemic, or if there is a pattern of complaints, the office
can provide a conduit to university officers responsible for reviewing practices and policies. The University Ombuds Office operates under the Standards of Practice and Code of Ethics of the International Ombuds Association (IOA), to the extent permitted by law. The Ombuds can serve as a coach to help, support, and empower you.
Meet the Ombuds

Saveena Dhall has nearly 30 years of experience working in higher education, in K-12 schools, and at social impact organizations. She has extensive experience in comprehensive student life, academic support, mental wellness programs, conflict resolution,
and bias prevention, and has designed and led cultural competency training and educational programs for decades. Additionally, through her own consulting & coaching practice, Saveena provides expert counsel to private and public university leaders,
independent schools, and community organizations on capacity building, equity and belonging, student success, employee engagement, and crisis management. Previously, at Yale University, as associate dean at the Yale School of Nursing, she served as
the chief student life officer, overseeing the division of Student Affairs, responsible for academic services, student life and belonging, the registrar, admissions, financial aid, and career planning. Before serving in that role, Saveena was the
dean and director of the Asian American Cultural Center at Yale University. She completed her graduate work at Harvard University, specializing in Administration, Planning, and Social Policy in Higher Education, and undergraduate studies at Connecticut
College.
