Congratulations! You are embarking on an exciting journey at The New School. At our university, we believe in fostering a supportive and inclusive community, and on-campus living plays a crucial role in achieving that goal. We want you to focus on what matters most—your studies, your friendships, and the incredible opportunities that await you in New York City.
First-Year Students
We understand that where you live is a central aspect of your first-year college experience. At The New School, all first-year students enrolled full-time in an undergraduate program at our New York City campus are guaranteed housing and are automatically signed up for on-campus housing for their first year.
We want to make the process as smooth as possible for you. All you need to do is submit your housing preferences, so that we can make sure you are matched with your ideal roommate in a residence hall that suits your needs and preferences.
Before you submit your housing preferences, you must:
Be accepted as a full-time student by one of the colleges of The New School
Receive your New School ID number (N plus eight digits)
Pay your tuition deposit (where applicable)
Receive instructions for logging in to my.newschool.edu

- First Year Housing Timeline
  
  Fall 2025
  Wednesday, February 5: Housing Preference Form becomes available in the Housing Portal at 10:00 a.m
  Thursday, May 1: Deadline to confirm your enrollment by submitting your tuition deposit
  Friday, June 6: Priority deadline to submit the Housing Preference Form by 12:00 noon
  Mid-June: Housing assignments are released on a rolling basis.
  August 16 and 17: New student move-in
  August 18–22: New Student Orientation
- Submit Your Housing Preferences
  
  Your Housing Preference Form will allow you to specify your residence hall and living preferences. Information provided on that form is used to assign roommates and suitemates; please answer all questions honestly to help us find the best possible pairing for you.
  The Housing Preference Form will become available in the Housing Portal on the dates below. Look for the Housing Preference Form icon once you’ve logged in.
  For students entering in spring 2025: October 21, 2024
  For students entering in fall 2025: February 5, 2025
- Residency Requirement Exemption Requests
  
  Students who meet the criteria below or who require an exemption for a different reason should submit a Residency Requirement Exemption Request in the Housing Portal by Friday, June 13, 2025. Approval is not guaranteed until the university has confirmed that you meet the exemption criteria.
  First-year students admitted into an online program
  Students under the age of 17 or over the age of 24 at the point of enrollment
  Military veterans
  Students who are married or in a domestic partnership
  Students with dependents
  Students who live with their parents or guardian at their permanent residence within 40 miles of the university
  Students who have applied for and received an approved housing accommodation that the university is unable to fulfill
  Note: All first-year students will receive a housing assignment and room charge unless an Exemption Request has been received and approved. Exemptions are not automatically applied to students who meet the criteria above; all students who are looking for an exemption must complete and submit a Residency Requirement Exemption Request.
- Housing Accommodations
  
  In accordance with applicable federal, state, and city disability laws, The New School's Student Disability Services (SDS) office will review your request for housing accommodations. These accommodations are determined on a case-by-case basis, taking students' documented disability-related needs and prevailing standards for reasonable accommodations into consideration.

- Housing Application Process for New Graduate and Transfer Students
  
  We welcome all new graduate and transfer students and look forward to assisting you with the housing application process. You are guaranteed housing if you apply by the priority deadline listed below.
  Graduate and Transfer Housing Timeline

  Submit Your Housing Application
  New graduate students and new transfer students with sophomore, junior, or senior status should follow the steps below to complete and submit the housing application for the 2025–2026 academic year.
  
  Log in to the Housing Portal.
  Click the Housing Application icon on the home page and complete the form.
  Electronically sign the Housing License Agreement.
  Pay the required non-refundable housing deposit of $350.
  Your Housing Application is not complete until you have paid the $350 housing deposit. You must also click Submit on the final page in order for your application to be considered officially submitted.
  Application Deadline
  You must apply by the priority deadline of 12:00 noon on Friday, June 6, 2025, in order to secure on-campus housing for the 2025–2026 academic year. Although on-campus space for upperclassmen may be limited, the university will guarantee housing for any current student who submits their housing application by the priority deadline. This may include housing with one of our off-campus partners.

Undergraduate Adult Learners

To apply to any of our Bachelor's Program for Adults and Transfer Students and Parsons Associate of Applied Science programs, complete and submit the New School Online Application.

Graduates

To apply to any of our Master's, Doctoral, Professional Studies Diploma, and Graduate Certificate programs, complete and submit the New School Online Application.
