This program is open to the following categories of students as long as they can participate (on-site or online) in the preparatory courses during spring and fieldwork in the summer:
- Advanced undergraduate students with evidence of academic accomplishment who have shown a commitment to working in the area of international affairs
 - Graduate students (master's and PhD)
 - Individuals pursuing continuing education in any field
 - Both New School and non-New School applicants from the United States and around the world

Students from all professional backgrounds are eligible to apply as long as they demonstrate their interest in the program and how it connects to their goals.
Students who successfully complete the program earn academic credits in The New School's Studley Graduate Program in International Affairs. New School credits are normally transferable, but students should consult an academic advisor at their home institution to confirm transferability of the credits and application to graduation requirements.
Credit transfer and transcripts: Many degree programs allow you to transfer credits from an outside institution. If you would like to transfer credits from the IFP to your degree program, you should first confirm with your university that they will accept these credits. Students can request that a transcript of the program be mailed to another college or university. The New School has authorized the National Student Clearinghouse to provide online transcript ordering.
