  • Curriculum Notice:  We are in the midst of an exciting redesign of this curriculum that addresses the urgent challenges of our time, building new programs and majors that are responsive to the changing world and tap into The New School’s unique strengths and groundbreaking work. Students who begin their studies at Lang in fall 2026 or after can take courses in this subject area and further pursue it through minors, electives, or broader individualized study. Students interested in pursuing a guided study of this subject are encouraged to speak with their Student Success Advisor for more information. Students in the Bachelor's Program for Adults and Transfer Students (Adult Bachelor’s Program) who are interested in this subject should consult their core faculty advisor.

    Requirements for the BA in Urban Studies for Students Who Began Their Studies at Lang Before the Fall 2026 Semester

    Only specific courses satisfy the major requirements, including electives. Courses should be chosen carefully, in consultation with the departmental faculty advisor and your Student Success advisor.     Students in the Adult Bachelor's Program should consult their core faculty advisor.

      Senior Capstone. Senior Seminars can be taken for a range of credits (1–4), depending on the nature of the senior capstone project. A minimum of 4 credits must be allocated to the two courses together.
