During the fall and spring semesters, the University Learning Center's services are available by appointment and on a walk-in basis. During the summer and intersession periods, such as spring or winter break, all sessions are by request.
Current degree-seeking students book their own appointments on WCONLINE, or they can email [email protected] to request a walk-in
session (depending on availability) or to book an appointment at a time not shown on the schedule.
New School alumni, faculty, staff, and continuing education students are also welcome to use our services. For the definition of each of these groups and how to request appointments, please look in the "Appointments" section on the main page. We are not able to help people unaffiliated with The New School in any of the ways listed above.
All sessions start on the hour and are approximately 50 minutes long.
Students must join online sessions using a laptop or desktop computer. We cannot accommodate appointments that take place on phones or tablets.
You may only bring your work to your appointments, not anyone else’s. You can only schedule or attend an appointment using your own account.
Appointments are typically for one person; however, group appointments (two students maximum) can be requested (at least 24 hours in advance) and we will do our best to accommodate the request.
If you bring in potentially offensive or violent subject matter or content that could be perceived as disturbing in any way, we require that you give your tutor a warning in advance.
Our tutors and staff reserve the right to terminate a tutoring session for reasons including, but not limited to, any of the following:
- Written content perceived as offensive or disturbing
- Speech or behavior perceived as hostile or abusive
- Lack of cooperation or participation
By registering for WCONLINE and/or by scheduling an appointment with the ULC, students are agreeing to these above policies.
