• The New School is required to furnish a 1098-T to all students who incurred qualified tuition and related expenses during the current tax year. The 1098-T form is provided each year on or before January 31. The data that is reported on the 1098-T is based on the tax year (January 1–December 31), not the academic year.

The following IRS documents can all provide details on claiming the education tax credits.

Any questions regarding the education tax credits should be directed to a tax professional to determine if you are eligible for any education-related tax incentives. The university cannot offer tax advice.

    Delivery

The New School has partnered with Heartland ECSI to provide you with your 1098-T Tax Form. The 1098-T Tax Form will be distributed on or before January 31. Students will receive an email notification once the form has been made available online at Heartland ECSI that will include detailed information on how to access the statement online.

If you have not previously opted for electronic tax forms on Heartland ECSI, your 1098-T Tax Form will also be mailed to the official mailing address we have on record for you. If you have not provided the university with an SSN or ITIN, you will not be able to access the form on the Heartland ECSI website.

To opt in to receiving your 1098-T Tax Form electronically, visit ECSI Electronic Consent Application and follow the step-by-step instructions on the web form. Once the form is completed, check the box and click Submit.
