• Music for Collaborative Media (Minor)

  • Overview

The Music for Collaborative Media minor is offered through the College of Performing Arts.

Housed in both Mannes School of Music and the School of Jazz and Contemporary Music, the Music for Collaborative Media minor is designed to give music makers a deeper understanding of visual media with which they wish to engage—film, television, game design, installation, and more. Students will participate in analysis, build technical skills, and develop their capacity for collaborative making.

    The minor will:

    • Help music makers build relationship-building and communication skills with partners outside of their discipline
    • Foster collaborative models that transcend the work-for-hire structures most commonly connected with composer–media maker relationships
    • Enable students to engage in experimentation as they develop their ability to connect music with moving images in television, theater, film, installation, Web-based experiences, and other media

    Curriculum

This minor requires the successful completion of 18 credits. Students generally select one course from each of the subject areas in the chart below.
