Public and Urban Policy (MS)
Sierra Lewandowski serves as a supervising analyst in the New York City Mayor’s Office of Management and Budget (OMB), where she reviews and manages the city’s investments in capital projects and renovation for the New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA). Her education and experience equipped her with a clear understanding of New York City policies and structures, which she applies in her work.
“After graduating from The New School, I continued my employment at the
Center for New York City Affairs and then transitioned to OMB, where I’ve
worked for over two years,” Sierra shares.
She credits The New School’s Public Finance course for sparking her interest and guiding her career path to the Mayor’s Office. “The program generally, and the public finance course specifically, were direct influences on my awareness, interest, and ultimate application to OMB,” she explains. This specialized training enabled her to excel in her role, employing her expertise to navigate complex fiscal landscapes and policy implementations.
Sierra’s success is a testament to The New School’s emphasis on technical policy analysis, cost benefit development, and critical analysis skills. “The program’s dedication to refining critical analysis skills has served me tremendously in my current professional role,” she states. Her continued application of these skills underscores the effectiveness of the Urban Policy curriculum in preparing graduates for careers in public administration.
