The New School’s Office of University Trademarks was formed to protect and license the university’s marks around the world. Those who wish to use the university’s identifying trademarks on commercial products must obtain permission from the Office of
University Trademarks.
The Office of University Trademarks serves as a resource for The New School’s campus community. The office manages the filing and maintenance of The New School’s trademark registration and serves as the contact point
for general trademark registration inquiries and requests. These activities are handled in cooperation with the Office of the General Counsel.
Mission Statement
The purpose of the Office of University Trademarks is to protect and license the university’s marks around the world.
The university owns the name New School and any other mark, logo, insignia, seal, crest, design, symbol or any combination of these that has come to be associated with the university, but not limited to those registered marks (Marks). The use of the university
Marks requires the permission of the Office of University Trademarks. Please note that the university's Brand Guidelines and the requirements of our Marketing Office must still be followed. The university reserves the right to modify this policy at
any time; determinations shall be made by the Office of University Trademarks.
The university monitors the use of its Marks and ensures that branding and use policies are being followed. The Trademark and Licensing Programs are designed to:
- Protect the university’s name and reputation
- Promote the university through licensed products and other licensing arrangements
- Preserve the university’s history by protecting historically significant and otherwise important trademarks
